Platanos U16 girl’s School Basketball team have been inspired to claim bronze with a 30 point win in this years London Youth Games, held on the 24^th March 2014.

 

‘The London Youth Games run alongside the National Schools Competition and determines who’s the best in London. They certainly worked hard, playing some of the best basketball I’ve seen all season! They played aggressively, attacked the basket strongly and most importantly worked together as a team’, said a delighted Greenhouse Head Coach, Jenny Ridgway.

Health drive finally eradicating Polio in India

Give Giving a Go can exclusively reveal that 172 million children have been vaccinated by more than 2.5 million vaccinators during a national "Polio Sunday drive" and ‘if no new cases of Polio are recorded by the end of 2013, then India will be officially considered polio-free’, said Roshanak Taghavi, correspondent for Johns Hopkins University's International Reporting Project.

Stunted growth due to under nutrition is slowly being eradicated, but not for long

Stunted growth, which is linked to children’s nutrition, is slowly being eradicated thanks to a current UNICEF initiative in developing countries, and is hoped that the project success is to be accelerated.

 

‘Our evidence of the progress that is being achieved shows that now is the time to accelerate it”, said UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake in the recent report ‘Improving Child Nutrition: The achievable imperative for global progress’.

Marine conservation in India, engenders pup birth of the extraordinary Whale Shark

A whale shark pup has been rescued at a marine conservation area in Gujarat, India, indicating that whale sharks are now reproducing in this recently protected area.

 

"It's exciting for us to notice the presence of a whale shark pup as this indicates that whale sharks feel at home and are comfortable breeding here on the shores on Gujarat", said Alka Talwar, Head of Community Development at Tata Chemicals, which is also involved with the conservation project.

New National Park in Bhutan is increasing Snow Leopard populations

"The findings are phenomenal as these are the first snow leopard images recorded in Wangchuck Centennial Park,” said lead surveyor Dr. Rinjan Shrestha, from the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF). “It suggests that the network of protected areas and corridors is helping to link local snow leopard populations, which will be invaluable to ensure long-term persistence of snow leopards in the region,” continued Dr Shrestha.
